Spice x River Pups 8-3-11 + Mystery Solved!

Cliff got these clips of the boys playing just before dark a couple nights ago.

The mystery of the stains has been solved.  The vet who removed the dew claws uses silver nitrate sticks to stop bleeding.  One of the pups bled a little on the way home (didn’t exactly work perfectly :-)).  The little bit of blood mixed with silver nitrate turned purple when we tried to remove it with peroxide, and made permanent stains.  They are brown now, and starting to wear off.  Hopefully won’t be too long before they are gone.

Everyone is doing well.

MY last three setters have been Ryman. All were great personal gun dogs. My favorite is Dashing Bella Bondhu, now nearing 10 years old. Will soon be seeking a male mostly for California valley and mountain Quail. Prefer to start bonding at about 6 weeks. Any suggestions?

Frank- I’m glad you had good luck with your last three setters. We hunt ours on Valley quail and they do fine. Idaho doesn’t have a hunt-able population of Mountain Quail, so we don’t have any experience on them. I would think Ryman types would handle them without trouble though.

We don’t let our pups go until 8 weeks, so any bonding at 6 weeks would have to be here at the kennel.

Dashing Bella Bondhu sounds like a Llewellin name. Since you really like her I’m wondering if it might be worth your while to contact her breeder to see if you could find a pup from the same lines. Happy to help you with a male Ryman type if you want to go that route.
